Kevin Gremm Obituary

On January 13, 2019, Kevin Royden Gremm, of Edson AB, died at the age of 53. Kevin struggled with health issues the past few years and after a brief, hard fought battle with cancer, he passed away at home surrounded by the pure love of his family. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 31 years, Dawn (nee Kinniburgh); sons Nicholas (Jasmine) of Edson; Trevor (Natia) of Drayton Valley, AB; and Joshua of Edson; 3 grand daughters, Claira, Kylie and Aubrey (and another grandchild on the way); his mother, Delores Gremm of Camrose, AB; a sister Marcy (Kevin) Spiker of Drayton Valley, AB; brothers Duane (Yvette) Gremm of Ft Saskatchewan, AB and Todd (Jessica) Gremm of Sherwood Park, AB; nephews David, Adam and Scottie; nieces, Brianna, Taylor, Katie, Sadie and Vada; his mother-in-law Ferne (Danny) Simpson of Seba Beach, AB; and brother-in-law Gordie (Mary Lou) Kinniburgh of Drayton Valley.  He was predeceased by his father Kenneth Gremm of Camrose and father-in-law, Colin Kinniburgh.

Kevin Royden Gremm was born on July 19, 1965 in Camrose, AB.  His family later moved to Drayton Valley where Kevin attended Frank Maddock High School. He was very active in hockey and baseball as a youth. He also attended NAIT.  On September 20, 1987, he married his beloved Dawnie in Drayton Valley, AB.  In 1994, they moved to Edson to raise their family. Kevin worked for ConocoPhillips as a plant operator for over 35 years.

Kevin was very involved in Edson activities. He coached his boys in minor hockey. He was the anchor short stop for his slow pitch team, and as anyone who ever played first base to his shortstop could attest to, he could throw the ball at blistering speeds. He was also the resident home run hitter for the team.  In later years his boys joined him on the slow pitch field and learned from the master. Golf was another favorite activity with all his family and friends and on days off he could be found at the family lot at Seba Beach, hitting the links and entertaining guests around the fire with stories and jokes.  The Pine Ridge Golf course may never be the same after Kevin’s epic 50th birthday party. Winter was curling time and Kevin skipped a team in the men’s league in Edson. He even got Nick curling with him.  One memorable bonspiel he traded his broom for a cowboy hat and took a turn on the mechanical bull – a graceful cowboy he was not!

Christmas was Kevin’s favorite time of the year. He loved to decorate the house, inside and out. Christmas 2018 was very special, and he spent it with those he most loved.  He enjoyed travel with his wife and family, especially to Hawaii, with Turtle Bay being one of his favorite places. He was a practical joker and many family members as well as friends were on the receiving end of his schemes. He always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye, a grin on his face and was quick to tease. Above all else he was a family man, a mentor and great role model for his boys, a father figure for his daughter-in-laws, a supportive husband and a hands on Papa, sharing a strong bond with his little girls. His oldest Grand daughter, Claira, summed it up perfectly by saying, “His most favorite thing in the world was hugs from me!”

The service to celebrate Kevin’s life will take place at the Bethel Pentecostal Church (6350 13e Ave, Edson, Alberta) at 1pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Interment will be at the Round Valley Cemetery on Sunday Jan 20th with only his immediate family in attendance. He will be laid to rest close to Seba Beach and surrounded by trees and green grass. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Care Foundation of Edson and District – Palliative Home Care, PO Box 6300 Station Main, Edson, AB, T7E 1T7
