Cooper Dwight Pennoyer

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beautiful boy, Cooper Dwight Pennoyer, 6, Friday, January 11, 2019.  Born in Grand Prairie, Alberta, May 11, 2012 to Jason and Sarah (Trenholm) Pennoyer, Edson, AB.  He was the love of their life, along with his little sister Taylor Elizabeth, 4. 

Cooper was in grade one at Ecole Westhaven school.  His school community was something he treasured and had many special friends and teachers that have touched his life. His stories were filled with excitement and lots of detail even if it was a simple school lesson that he wanted to share with us. He would proudly inform us if he was on the “Lorax” each day when we picked him up. Our little man, being a ball of energy, loved gym class, playing outside with his best friends and having new “harder” things to learn in his reading and spelling when he would pull his work out of his book bag.

Although young in years and old in soul, Cooper’s zest for life shone everyday through his infectious smile and big brown eyes that lit up when he talked about everything he loved. When Cooper smiled it was with his whole face and you couldn’t help but smile with him. He shared his passion of hockey, Lego and everything outdoors with his dad, spending countless hours talking, constructing, discussing cows and quadding.  His dad was his best friend!  Cooper loved his mom beyond measure!  Snuggling on the couch many evenings watching movies and eating a snack or reading a book and practicing his French.  His overabundant vocabulary and talkative nature was something he definitely shared and inherited from his Momma. Cooper adored his sister Taylor.  He was her playmate, friend and proud big brother. A gentle quick hug, a joke to make her laugh or a roar to scare her when she came around a corner that had them both giggling away after sissy’s high-pitched scream was done. Their endless races around the house and competitive natures are something they both picked up from their parents. 

Cooper’s face radiated happiness when he talked about his hockey team the Edson Sabres that he played on for the last two seasons.  He was an avid hockey fan cheering for both the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers. He loved soccer, golf, basketball and was looking forward to starting baseball this spring, participating again in the Bear Chase Triathlon and the Eddie’s Big Run 5k since he was “big enough this year”.  He was a skilled rider at his young age, able to drive the quad, a kitty cat skidoo and his new dirt bike, all the while donning his “gear” proudly and showing it off to anyone that was around.  Cooper had a blast teaching mom, dad and Tay-Tay how to play the Wii and recently the new Nintendo Switch games, anything Mario was his forte.

Cooper hoped that one day he would follow in his mom’s and dad’s footsteps and become a police officer.  He was so proud when he put on his mom’s RCMP hat or his dad’s RCMP Stetson and got to play with their vests. The detachment ladies had their “Coop” entertainment almost every morning and afternoon while he was waiting to go to school or home, target practice with elastics, taping them to their chairs and drawing them pictures on whatever scrap paper they had on their desks.  The police car ride with his classmates Rylen, Logan and Rhett was one of his greatest joys.

Cooper loved Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Captain America.  He was and will always be our very own little superhero, our Super Cooper.

Besides his parents Jason and Sarah and sister Taylor left to mourn him are his grandparents Dwight and Beth Trenholm, Sackville, NB, Wes and Angie Pennoyer, Grand Forks, BC, Debra and Bob Peterson, Oroville, Washington.  Aunt Becca (Zane) Dunstan and their children Olivia and Declan, Salisbury, NB, Uncle Kyland (Theresa) Pennoyer and their children Wyatt and Haylee, Spruce Grove, AB, Uncle Ryan Pennoyer (Jourdan Schmidt), Fort St. John, BC, and his children Connor, Brooke, Logan and Sierra.  Great grand parents Betty Davis, Port Elgin, NB, Harold and Alein Trenholm, Portage Vale, NB and Viola Pennoyer, Grand Forks, BC as well as many great aunts and uncles on both sides of the country. 

He will be profoundly missed by special friends Peter and Jennifer King and their children Anderson, Madilyn, Brennan, Carson and Carter, along with the extended RCMP family, who are too numerous to name, stretching from Coast to Coast, as well as all of the people that have become a part of his life through school, our communities and his sports. He was predeceased by his great grandfathers Henry Davis, Port Elgin, NB and Keith Pennoyer, Grand Forks, BC.

In lieu of flowers a trust fund for his sister Taylor has been set up at ATB in Edson, AB, account #826-00404692779. A portion of the funds will be donated in his name to Ecole Westhaven School and the Edson Minor Hockey Association.

A celebration of life for Cooper will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Bethel Pentecostal Family Worship Centre, 6350 13^th Ave. Edson, AB at 11 am.  A time of remembrance (reception) will follow shortly after.
