It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arvon Allen Hilworth on Friday, January 18, 2019 in Jasper, Alberta.
Arvon was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, December 10, 1930. He and his family moved to Jasper, Alberta in 1942 when he was 12. He took one look at the mountains and said “I am home!”. After attending Jasper High School, Arvon started work with the Canadian National Railway as a fireman and retiring as an engineer with Via Rail. He met his “beanery queen” Mary on his many train trips to Blue River, British Columbia. After a whirlwind courtship, Arvon and Mary were married May 22, 1942 in Vanderhoof, British Columbia, settling in Jasper, Alberta.
It was in Jasper that they raised four children. Arvon was greatly involved in minor sports, coaching, mentoring and teaching kids how to skate. As his children grew up his focus move on to photography , building dollhouses and wood working. His grandchildren give him great join in his later years with daily and summer visits, watching them play soccer, football and hockey. Arvon also spent several years volunteering in the shop class at Jasper High School. The museum slow became a place of interest putting his talents to fix, build and talk to use.
Arvon was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2014. He is survived by his children; David (Laura), John (Verna), Gary (Tamar) and Patti (Mark), his grandchildren; Danielle, Jacob, Hannah, McKinley, Jack, Hayden, Cooper and Nash, and his great granddaughter McKenzie.
As requested by Arvon “a party by the fire” will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Jasper Museum and Jasper Minor Sports.
